We will soon be entering the season of Lent. Lent is a sacred season of reflection, prayer and
spiritual renewal. Lent lasts for six weeks and prepares people for the celebration of Easter,
in a similar way that Advent leads us up to Christmas. Advent is a time of celebration and
eager anticipation whilst Lent is normally observed with sombreness and preparation for
remembering Jesus’ death and resurrection at Easter. From Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday
it has been usual to fast or abstain from something.

Many Christians use Lent as an opportunity to engage in more concentrated Bible studies,
devotional resources and prayer. The devotional material we will be using during Lent this
year is produced by Lectio 365 and 24/7 Prayer and the title is Peter Greig’s ‘Wisdom in the
Desert. The Lent Course starts on zoom Tuesday 17 th February and is repeated in person on
Wednesday (Ash Wednesday) 18 th February. Details will be in the notices. May this season
spiritually enrich us all.
