MESSAGE FROM OUR MINISTER DEBBIE

Dear Friends

Ascension Day was on Thursday (May 14 th ) and this Sunday we celebrate the Ascension.  The Ascension is a key Christian holiday celebrating Jesus ascending into heaven. After Jesus’ resurrection, Jesus spent time with the Apostles and told them that he would not leave them alone because he would send an advocate to be with them. After Jesus ascended into heaven the Apostles received the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The Holy Spirit is the third part of The Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

In the Book of Acts (2:1-4) we read that after the ascension Jesus’ disciples were gathered together when the Holy Spirit descended on them like ‘tongues of fire.’ After this event the disciples began to preach Jesus’ message throughout the world. Pentecost is the birthday of the Christian Church and the start of its mission to the world.

These events remind us that Jesus keeps his promises and nothing will ever separate us from God’s saving grace and love and we are not to keep this good news to ourselves. Rather, what different ways are we seeking to fulfil the Great Commission! (Matthew 28:16-20, Luke 24:44-53, Acts 1:1-11)
